Product Description

During the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, Shen Li—esteemed as the “Imperial Tutor to Three Emperors” and a native of Jianzhongdian (now Gujing Town, Bozhou City)—presented “Jian Liquor” (the direct predecessor of Gujinggong Liquor) brewed in his hometown to the imperial court.

In his memorial to the throne, he cited a traditional regional ballad praising the liquor and local cuisine: “Mandarin fish from the Guo River, carp from the Yellow River, paired with wild water celery and Jian Liquor for a sumptuous feast.” Delighted by its exquisite flavor upon tasting, Emperor Wanli praised the spirit lavishly and decreed it an official imperial tribute.

The Ming Dynasty fermentation cellars of Gujinggong Liquor were constructed in the 10th year of Zhengde during the Ming Dynasty (1515 AD). Continuously in use for over 500 years, they remain actively operational to this day. Possessing one of the longest continuous histories of production among existing cellar complexes in China, they have been designated as a “Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level.” Preserved across half a millennium, these historic fermentation pits continue to sustain the craftsmanship of Gujinggong Liquor, carrying its time-honored heritage into the present.
